How to change the WiFi network on a Chromecast device?

Chromecast devices can only remember one Wi-Fi network at a time. If you changed your Wi-Fi network and your device isn’t currently connected to a Wi-Fi network, perform a factory reset and set up your Chromecast on the new network.

If your Chromecast is connected to an existing Wi-Fi network, but you would like to connect it to a new one, follow these steps below:

  1. Reset Chromecast (1st and 2nd generation): a. Ensure that your Chromecast is connected to a TV and plugged into a power source.
    b. Locate the physical reset button on your Chromecast. It is a small button usually located near the micro-USB port.
    c. Use a paperclip or a pin and press and hold the reset button for about 25-30 seconds.
    d. While holding the button, you should see the light on your Chromecast start blinking. Keep holding until the light stops blinking and remains solid. This indicates that the reset is complete.
    e. Release the reset button, and your Chromecast will restart.
  2. Reset Chromecast with Google TV or Chromecast (3rd generation): a. Make sure your Chromecast with Google TV is connected to a TV and plugged into a power source.
    b. Open the Google Home app on your mobile device.
    c. Tap on your Chromecast device to open its settings.
    d. Tap on the “Settings” (gear) icon in the top right corner of the screen.
    e. Scroll down and select the “More” option.
    f. Choose “Factory reset” from the list of options.
    g. Confirm the reset when prompted.

After performing either of these methods, your Chromecast will be reset to its factory settings. It will no longer be associated with any Wi-Fi network or Google account. You will need to set it up again from scratch, following these steps: How to set up a new Chromecast.
